What is encrypted in Lucid Lynx 10.04?
I’m pretty sure this question has been asked and answered, but I’ve spent an hour looking and I can’t find it.

I’ve done a fresh install of Lucid Lynx, and checked the little box at the user setup that calls for log on and decrypt home folder.

As I understand it, this will encrypt my home folder.
What I don’t know is:

What program is used to do the encryption?

How secure is it (compared to Truecrypt)?.

What is included in the encryption (swap file? additional folders I make and fill with data within my home folder? etc)

I have been using Truecrypt in the past, but I have been having problems (complete system lockup after a few minutes) moving files from a Truecrypt container on a usb drive to a Truecrypt container on the Lucid Linx computer (setup with the options I stated in my first paragraph). I figured there might be some kind of conflict between the two encryption programs. I made this deduction after encountering the same problem with Xubuntu and Ubuntu (both 10.04). It’s either that, or I’m holding my mouse wrong

Currently TV stations are sending out analog and digital signals.All old analog signals will be shut off on June 12,2009.After the digital transition will TV stations be switching over to high definition? Digital transition and High definition are two different things.Please don’t get the two confused with one another.I know all about the digital transition.I want to know about the TV stations broadcasting only in high definition.

I have installed ubuntu 8.0.4 and am tring to get the compiz add on to work. Am i wasting time trying on an dell inspiron 1525 have noticed a lot of brute-force or dictionary attacks on my FTP server. Most of the time, the attacker is running their own FTP server, so they were probably themselves compromised by the same attack, and their system is now being used by their attacker to attack my server. I’ve been using fail2ban to block them, but I thought it might be cool instead to actually connect to their server and proxy everything, logging any successful logins.

Would there be anything illegal about this? My script doesn’t spoof, it only proxies. Their own FTP banner will be sent to them. They are essentially interacting with their own server. It does log passwords, but they willingly connected to my server and provided the passwords. I would be concerned about implicating yourself in already-compromised system behavior. If you’re redirecting logins from your host and they are successful then you’re now a user on their FTP server (a big if). (Authorized or otherwise) You now have to hope there’s nothing on there that might incriminate you. (most likely not)

Although you are presenting them with their own banner, does that banner say “you are allowed to use this system for your own purpose”, or anything about it being an open system?

To what end are you redirecting the attacks? Are you simply trying to find out what username/passwords work on the compromised system? Although that sounds interesting it may not be worth the risk (of involving yourself) if you’re only going to uncover bad passwords.

Where can i download the latest Linux for free and Wubi?

Should i partion my hard drive or do it the Wubi way and have it as a “application”?

i am thinking of replacing my vista with ubuntu.
Questions:
1) what will be the advantages and disadvantages of using ubuntu instead of vista?
2) what will be the setbacks of replacing my vista?
3) how hard is it to cope up with the new OS? what must i learn to utilize ubuntu?

First, a bit about my background.. I currently work as a Network Engineer, mainly with Cisco routers/switches and VPN devices. I am throughly familiar with Windows, both as a workstation and server, and have one more test to go to complete my MCSE. However, I have no real experience with Linux, and feel like this is both a hole in my personal knowledge and in my resume. I can do basic user stuff both from a command line and in Xwindows, but have no real command of it.
That said, I intend to rectify this. I want to start using Linux as my primary operating system on my personal PC, as I feel this is a great first step to really force myself to learn it. I need to know what distribution would be best for me to use. My concern is some of them seem to have alot of propriatary tools that are not found in other linux distros, I want to find one to learn on that will best allow me to be comfortable on any linux distro I run into in the future. I want to convert my standard definition cable tv signal to high definition. Is this possible using a tuner or set top box. I have a coaxil cable coming out of the wall. Thank you and if there is a set top box please give the company and model number.
